The Curly Accidental Scientist

An unofficial guide site for undergrad students navigating this thing we call a STEM degree with an emphasis on research & writing.

Sketch of me

Hello CAS users! Your semester is ending very very soon and I couldn't be happier! Because that means mine is ending too! At the same time, panic starts setting in because all of those terms papers are going to be due soon as well as finals. It's all coming our way like a tsunami, so be prepared. First things first, get yourself organized. Start looking at your schedule now so you can manage your time wisely. Sounds easy enough right? Make a tentative study schedule so you're not cramming the night before (I know I know... easier said than done). I was an undergrad once, and you've got this. You guys are all pro's! I know my readers... they're savvy and smart. As for those who are graduating, CONGRATS!! I'm super excited for you and you've earned it. This is an exciting and scary time for you because now you'll have to get a job. Talk you your academic advisor and your career services center. They are amazing resources to have when it comes to finding jobs. Again, good luck everyone. And as always, email me anytime with any questions you may have. Oh! And congrats to everyone who got into any special programs and/ or research opportunities for this coming summer. You guys rock!

And it begins again....

I hope all of you followers and newbies to the CAS have had a great start to your semester! So grab your coffee or redbull and hold on tight, because as always the Spring semester flies by at lightning speed. You've got this! And Spring break is right around the corner for some R&R. For those who are graduating, this semester will seem never ending and you'll always feel like there's not enough time. The good news is, you will survive and come out on top. I have no doubt. If you have any questions about Grad school or job-ish questions, feel free to contact me. Good luck everyone!

It will all begin again soon!

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and Happy New Year! Don't get too comfy with your time off ;) Most of you will be beginning your new Spring semester in about 2 weeks. Just think, school starts soon, then we have Spring Break, and before you know it Summer will be here! I can't wait. But remember between now and 2 weeks from now, graduating seniors should be set to graduate this Spring or Summer. Juniors, make sure you talk to your academic advisors to make sure you're on track to graduate next year. And most of all, be proud of your accomplishments!
I want to thank everyone who visits this site and please feel free to email me with any questions, concerns, or anything else you may need answers to.

The end of the semester is near!!

Seasons Greetings! The end of the semester is creeping up! And don't we all want to pull out our hair? With projects, papers, and finals coming up, no wonder it seems we college students consume more coffee during the next month than any other time of the year. The key to closing out a successful semester is pacing yourself and giving yourself enough time. And if all else fails and procrastination creeps in... you can always give in, but what goos would that do?

Don't forget, if you're interested in Summer research programs, click on the "What's research" tab and go from there. There are always opportunities at your school, as well as travel opportunities at other schools. And you get paid to do it!! Keep in mind that no matter when the application deadline is (around Feb), you want to get yours in around Christmas if not sooner. Deadlines are fast approaching!

If you need tips on writing a lab report, personal statement, or science resume, feel free to click on the Writing Center tab in the menu.
